1) placenta is a disk like structure embedded in mothers uterine wall.

2) it have large number of villi on embryo side and mother side. the spaces between villi in mother side is filled by blood and hence called it has blood spaces on mother side

2) it provide developing embryo essential nutrition.

3) the developing embryo also generate waste product which can be removed by transferring into mother blood.

4) it serves as a link between mother and baby
