 \large \bf Placentation : -

The arrangement of placenta within the ovary in known as placentation. Placenta is a tissue which connect the ovary and ovule.

 \large  \bf Types \: of \: placentation :  -

(a) Marginal :-

  • Placenta develops along the junction or the margins of the Carpel in a single chambered ovary.
  • Example :- Leguminousae (Pea , Gram)

(b) Axile :-

  • When the placenta develops from the central axis and the ovules are attached to it in a multilocular ovary.
  • Example :- Chinarose, Tomato and Lemon

(c) Parietal :-

  • The ovules develop on the inner wall of ovary or on peripheral part. Ovary is single chamber but it becomes two chamber due to formation of the flase septum called replim
  • Example :- Mustard, Argemone.

(d) Free central :-

  • When the ovules are borne on central axis and septa are absent in one chambered ovary.
  • Example :- Dianthus and primrose

(e) Basal :-

  • The placenta develops at the base of ovary and a single ovule is attached to it.
  • Example :- Sunflower, Marigold, Wheat and Maize.
