Answer:

Planck's quantum theory. According to Planck's quantum theory Different atoms and molecules can emit or absorb energy in discrete quantities only. The smallest amount of energy that can be emitted or absorbed in the form of electromagnetic radiation is known as quantum.

What is plank's quantum theory ?

✒ When black body is heated, it emits thermal radiation of different wavelengths or frequency. To explain the radiations ,Max Planck put forward a theory known as Planck's quantum theory.

Additional information :-

  • The radiant energy which is emitted or absorbed by the black body is not continuous but discontinuous in the form of small discrete packets of energy, each such packet of energy is called a Quantum.

  • In case of light ,the quantum of energy is called a Photon.

  • The energy of each quantum is directly proportional to the frequency of the radiation, i.e.

E =hν = hc/λ ,where h = Planck’s constant

  • The total amount of Energy emitted or absorbed by a body will be some whole number quanta. Hence ,E=nhν,Where n is integer.

  • Planck's constant (= 6.625 × 10^ -34 Js)
