Answers
Answer:
Placenta is dual organ produced partly by mother and partly by foetus.
Role
- To provide nutrients ,antibodies to foetus.
- To remove toxic material frim body of foetus.
- To secrete HCG.
Answer:
Placenta:
It is a fetal - maternal unit formed by contribution from both foetus and mother.
It mainly develops after implantation of the embryo in the maternal endometrium.
Structure:
Placenta in other animals contain many layers (approximately 6 layers). The layers are maternal connective tissue, maternal blood vessels, fetal blood vessels, fetal connective tissue, etc.
In humans, the placenta is discoid in shape.
It consists of 3 layers from inner to outer:
a) amnion
b) allantois
c) chorion
Functions:
1) Transport of gases ( oxygen and Carbon dioxide).
2) Transport of waste products from the foetus
3) Transport of nutrients
4) Passage of immunoglobulins like IgG.
5) Prevents mixing maternal and fetal blood, and hence prevents "incompatibility".
6) Secretion of hormones like Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG).
