Plasma membrane

Plasma membrane is a membrane like wall that is flexible and provides shape to the cell . It also helps the organelles to stay intact inside the cell without getting mixed up with other components of cells .

It is made up of Proteins , lipids and fats .

It allows only selected items to pass in and out of the cell . Hence called Selectively permeable membrane ..

It is also called as cell membrane .

It is porous and thus allows some things to pass in or out .

Carbon dioxide and oxygen pass through it by the process of diffusion .

Water passes through osmosis .

It is found in both : Animal and Plant cells .

Supplementary information :

  • Diffusion is the process by which substances move in and out of the cell.

  • Osmosis is a special diffusion that is the movement of water through semi permeable membrane.
