Explanation:

The plasma membrane, also called the cell membrane, is the membrane found in all cells that separates the interior of the cell from the outside environment. In bacterial and plant cells, a cell wall is attached to the plasma membrane on its outside surface. The plasma membrane consists of a lipid bilayer that is semipermeable. The plasma membrane regulates the transport of materials entering and exiting cells

Answer:

plasma membrane is the outer most covering of the cell that separates the contents of the cell from its external environment.

The functions of plasma membrane are:

1) It surround the cytoplasm of the cell and acts as a mechanical barrier which protects the cellular components.

2) It controls the movement of molecules in and out of the cell. It is a selectively  permeable membrane which permits the entry/exit of certain molecules, while restricts the transportation of other molecules.

3) It contains receptors and molecules which act as points of recognition and attachment of cells.

4) Osmosis occurs through plasma membrane.
