Plasma or cell membrane is the cover of cells that protects cytoplasm from outer surroundings. It is a combination of proteins and lipids that makes the boundary of the cell. Because it is partly pervious, it controls the material flow to and from the cells. It is one of the primary functions of plasma membrane to provide such control, for example, allowing water but regulating ions.
Endocytosis and Exocytosis, transmitting signals among cells, containment and control of carbs and proteins are additional important functions of plasma (cell) membrane.
