In some bacteria in addition to the nucleoid , double stranded circular DNA molecules called plasmids are present.
Each plasmid contains a few thousand genes, so they act as extra nuclear genetic material.
The plasmid DNA provide certain peculiar phenotypic characters to these bacteria.eg. fertility or sexuality factor.
