Plasmolysis- If a plant cell is placed in a hypertonic solution then water molecule diffuses out from the Cell. As a result exosmosis the protoplast of the cell is detached from the cell wall and starts shrinking. This is called plasmolysis.
Extra Information
•In the process actually water is lost firstly from cytoplasm then from vacuole.
•The process of plasmolysis is usually reversible.
•When the cells are placed in hypotonic solution water diffuse into the cell causing the cytoplasm to build up a pressure against the wall is known as turgor pressure.
•If plasmolysis continuous for long duration in a Cell then cell dies.
•A great significance of plasmolysis is to destroy weeds, salt is used around their roots.
•High amount of chemical fertilizers near the roots causes death of Browning of the plant due to plasmolysis.
