Plasmolysis is the process of cell shrinkage when the cell is placed in a  hypertonic solution. During this process, the plasma of the cell, moves out. This is because hypertonic has less water concentration. As the result, the cell contents, move out making the cell plasmolysed. This process is called plasmolysis. It leads to the loss of water in the cell.
