A huge erosion of this hotspot is though to have laid down the DECCAN TRAPS which is a vast belt of basalt lava that converts central India. The PLATE TECTONIC THEORY is able to explain the formation of himalayas successful but Mantle plume theory is also needed to explain the formation of DECCAN TRAPS .
