Answer:

In this poem, the poet uses the device of metaphor in line when she speaks 'Trees sprinting, the merry children spilling out of their homes' to show the contrary image of her mother's age and approaching end. REPETITION: This rhetorical device is used when a word or phrase is repeated.

Explanation:

The poem "My Mother at Sixty Six" by Kamala Das was published in 1999. The poem describes the journey of the poetess's parents from home to the airport. During this journey he suddenly realizes how old his mother has become. The same thing compels the poetess to think that how will she (her mother) kill her if not today or tomorrow.

Kamala Das was born on 31 March 1934 in Thrissur, Kerala. Most of his childhood was spent in Calcutta in a family rich in artists. where she felt lonely. In her teens, she was married off to a much older man. She also became a mother at a young age. This is the reason why his poems deal with the emotional and sexual problems arising out of this uneasy relationship.

Kamala Das wrote poetry, short stories, novels and biographies in both English and Malayalam. He raised his voice against domestic and sexual harassment. Many of his books openly mention the sexual desires and marital problems of women.

An Introduction" and "Invitation" are one of his most famous poems. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1985, and a year before that, he was nominated for the Nobel Prize. He died on 31 May 2009.
