In Chemistry polarization means partial separation of positive and negative charge in a molecule.
Generally, polarization occurs due to the perturbation (electric-Compton effect, magnetic-Stark effect).

In physics it means, the action of restricting the vibrations of a transverse wave, especially light, wholly or partially to one direction.

Heyaa folk,

The action of restricting the vibrations of a transverse wave, especially light, wholly or partially to one direction, called as polarisation. Polarization (also polarisation) is a property applying to transverse waves that specifies the geometrical orientation of the oscillations. Polarized light waves are light waves in which the vibrations occur in a single plane. The process of transforming unpolarized light into polarized light is known as polarization. There are a variety of methods of polarizing light. Polarisation can also be achieved by creating waves in one plane (for example, a laser). Longitudinal waves cannot be polarised.

Hope it helps u :)
