Polarization by Refraction- Refraction is when a light wave travels from one medium to another, it changes its direction and speed. This refracted beam attains some degree of polarization. In the majority of the cases, polarization by refraction occurs in the plane which is perpendicular to the surface.

Brewster's law states that an unpolarized light ray gets polarized maximum when it falls at a certain angle of incidence, called the Brewster's angle onto an interface of another medium.

If light strikes an interface so that there is a 90o angle between the reflected and refracted rays, the reflected light will be linearly polarized. The direction of polarization (the way the electric field vectors point)is parallel to the plane of the interface.
