  • Pollen transportation to a plant's female organs is referred to as pollination (stigma in flowers).
  • Pollen is produced by a plant's male organs (stamens in flowers) and includes genetic information for reproduction.
  • Pollen can be transported to female organs of the same plant or another plant of the same species (self-pollination) (cross-pollination).
  • The plants generate seeds as a result of pollination. Wind, water, and animal pollinators including insects, bats, and birds can distribute pollen.

Pollination: It is the process of transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of flower.

Explanation:

If this transfer of pollens occur in the same flower, it is referred to as self-Pollination whereas if the pollen is transferred from one flower to another, it is known as cross-pollination.

  • This transfer is carried out by different agencies like wind , water , insects or animals.

The female reproductive part is called carpel. Further carpel is made up of three parts , Bottom - Ovary, Middle - style and terminal - stigma .

The ovary contains ovules and each ovule has an egg cell. Each stamen consists of stalk called filament, amd a flattened fertile top is called anther . the anther produce pollen grains. The pollen grains produce male gametes which fuse with female gamete present in ovule .
