SIPHON SYSTEM;;;;;A systematic study on morphotaxonomy and culture studies on thedevelopment of sporelings of the euryhaline algal species of Bostrychiaradicans (Montagne) Montagne had been described. Speciesidentification had been carried out with emphasis on the branchingpatterns, axial cortication, and number of pericentral cells, type ofhaptera, poly- or monosiphonous of the laterals, reproductive features. The sporelings of Bostrychia species tolerate a broad range of salinities(5- 35‰) using PES medium at 25ºC and 30ºC under 8L: 16 D and16L: 8D photoperiods. The bipolar growth patterns of both field-collected plants and sporelings of B. radicans in culture were firstlyrecorded in the present study, showing the monosiphon ous rhizoidwhich was transformed into polysiphonous structure as main axis. Inaddition, the comparison of main characteristics of B. radicans growingin different coun tries had been described. Moreover, ecologi cal notes ofthis species were briefly described
Systematics of the genus Bostrychia Montagne from Setse and Kyaikkhami I: B. radicans Montagne (Montagne) based on the morphology and development of sporelings in culture.
