 \huge {\bf{\red{POPULATION}}}

People are an important resource on the earth. They can use the resources of the earth and can create the social and cultural environment. Human resources include both the quantity as well as the quality of people. Quantity means the distribution and density of population while quality stands for the physical and mental abilities of the people. The economic development of a country or region depends on its human resources.

For example, coal remained a piece of rock until human beings were able to develop technology to use it as a resource. Thus, resources and other events (calamities and disasters) on the earth are meaningful only in relation to human beings. The number, distribution, growth and quality of human beings help us to learn about various aspects of the environment.

We should learn about three major aspects about the human population.

  • How many people are there in a country and where do they live?

  • How and why are their numbers increasing?

  • What are the qualities of the population with respect to age, sex composition, literacy levels, occupational structure and health conditions?
