Density of population has gradually been increasing over time in India. Population density was 117persons per square kilometer in 1951.population density of India in 2001 was 324.aong the major states, west Bengal had the largest density of population at 904.arunachal pradesh had the lowest density of population at only 13 persons per square kilometer. Population density depends upon serval factors such as favorable climate of habitation, scope of agriculture and industrial production and other facilities for survival such as housing, drinking, water, roads, etc. Population density is low in areas not suitable for habitation and agricultural production such as hilly terrains, desrts, etc.
