When a catalyst accelerates a reaction, it is known as a positive catalyst.

For example, the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide gets increased in the presence of of manganese dioxide.

2H₂O ------(MnO₂)----> 2H₂O + O₂.

Enzymes are also examples of positive catalysts. They are proteins that act as catalysts in biochemical reactions. During digestion, the complex food material gets broken down into simpler substances in two to three hours in the presence of enzymes acting as catalysts, otherwise it will take months to get digested.
