hey mate,,,
the line joining center of circle (or midpoint of one of the sides) and circumference of the circle where one of the corners resides has a tan value of 2. So, the diameter is sqrt(2 * 2 + 1 * 1) times that of side. This gives us the value of the side of square (2r/sqrt(5)). So, the area is 4r^2/5.
