it is an instrument used to compare the emf of two cells and to find the internal resistance of cells.
principle the fall of the potential across any portion of the wire is directly proportional to the length of that wire.
comparison of emf.. of 2 cells. E1 is directly proportional to L1 and E2 is directly proportional to L2 so E1 =KL1 and like that E2 now E1/E2 =L1 /L2
