The unit of electricity is Kilowatt hour(kwh). It also referred simply as 'unit'. It basically is the energy consumption/generation by an equipment of one thousand Watt(1 KW) rating when running an hour. Assume the iron box in your home is of 1KW rating. You kept it ON for an hour then the energy meter in your home would increment by 1 Unit.

This same 'unit' is used in power generating stations also. Consider a huge generator of 500MW capacity. As in the case of iron box if it keeps running for an hour we can see how much units are generated.
500MW= 500×1000×1000 W= 500×1000KW
So if it runs for an hour it is as good as running 500×1000 iron boxes of 1KW rating. So after an hour we would have generated 500×1000= 500,000 Units of electricity. We can say in short 0.5 Million units(MU). If it keeps running for a day we can say 0.5×24= 12 MU electricity will be generated.
