Pleuropneumonia-Like Organisms (PPLO) or mycoplasma belong to a group of bacteria which do not have a cell wall surrounding their cell membrane. Thus these organisms are immune to antibiotics which act against cell wall synthesis (e.g. penicillin). An example of a PPLO is Mycoplasma pneumoniae which is pathogenic to humans, affecting the respiratory system.
