DEFINITION:
The preamble is an introduction to our Constitution and is non-justiciable. It is called the Soul of the Indian Constitution.
INTRODUCTION OF A NEW WORD TO THE PREAMBLE:
In spite of so many provisions already existing in the Constitution, the word ‘SECULAR’ was added to the Preamble in 1976 by the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution. The purpose behind adding this word in the Preamble was mainly to reiterate that secularism was a part of the basic ideology in India. It simply emphasises that India does not have any state religion.
Hope it helps
