what is precipitation reaction
Answers
Precipitation reactions transform ions into an insoluble salt in aqueous solution.
Precipitation refers to a chemical reaction that occurs in aqueous solution when two ions bond together to form an insoluble salt, which is known as the precipitate.
hope it's help you. . . . .

A precipitation reaction is when there is a chemical reaction in a liquid solution that results in the formation of a solid, or a precipitate. The other product of this reaction is the precipitate free liquid, otherwise known as a supernatant.

Using a sodium chloride solution and a silver nitrate solution as an example: if you mix the two solutions you put the silver ion in close contact w/the chloride ions, creating silver chloride. Silver chloride has a very low solubility in water and will drop out of solution or PRECIPITATE as a white solid at the bottom of the beaker or test tube. So a precipitate reaction is one in which you create a substance w/low solubility.

A precipitation reaction refers to the formation of an insoluble salt when two solutions containing soluble salts are combined. The insoluble salt that falls out of solution is known as theprecipitate, hence the reaction's name.
Precipitation reactions can help determine the presence of various ions in solution.

When two or more compounds react in solution and one of the products is not soluble in water, it forms a solid precipitate which can be filtered and collected. This means the solution gets cloudy as the insoluble product drops out of solution. The consequence is that this product is taken out of the equilibrium and this drives the reaction to near completion.
AgNO3 + NaCl <=====> AgCl(ppt) + NaNO3
I hope that explains it

A precipitate is an insoluble salt produced after a reaction( ie, it is a product). And, any reaction in which precipitate is formed is said to be precipitation reaction.
In other words, chemical reactions in aqueous solution wheretwo ionic bonds combine to form a insoluble salt, called precipitate, are known as precipitation reactions.
For eg- AgNO3(aqueous) + KCl(aqueous) —–AgCl(precipitate) + KNO3(aqueous)
hope it helps you.
