The reaction in which precipitate is left behind after reaction is called precipitation reaction.

for example :-

BaCl2+ H2SO4------> BaSO4+2HCl

BaCl2 = Barium Chloride .

H2SO4 = Sulphuric acid

BaSO4 = Barium Sulphate

HCl = Hydrochloric acid

Here,

Barium Sulphate (BaSO4) is precipitate.

Short form of precipitate is (ppt.)
