Example:- I sit on a bench.

Here "on" is a preposition.

A preposition is a word placed before a noun ( or a pronoun) to show in what relation the person or thing denoted by the noun stands to something else.

1. The book is on the desk.

2. The book is under the desk.

3. The book is near the desk.

4. The book is in the desk.

5. The book is beside the desk.

Each of the above sentences contains a word that shows the relation between the book and the desk . Such words are called Prepositions.

Now, examine the following sentences :-

1. He came with me.

2. I do not believe in them.

In these sentences, you see the Prepositions used with pronouns.

Participle preposition :-

accepting, considering, during, regarding etc.

A preposition must have an object. If we say " The latter is from, " it is clear that the sentence is not complete. The latter must be from somebody ( or some place) . The preposition must have an object . We must say " The latter is from Rama " or "The latter is from Bombay, " or something similar.
