Explanation:

The principle of homogeneity states that the dimensions of each the terms of a dimensional equation on both sides are the same. Using this principle the given equation will have same dimension on both sides. Thus, the dimension on both sides quantities are same.

According to this principle, the dimensions of all the terms occurring on both sides of equations must be same.

Where it's used?

  1. Conversion of a derived physical quantity from one system to another.
  2. To check correctness of s physical relation
  3. Deriving the relation among the physical quantities

What are it's limitations?

  • By method of dimensions we cant get any information about Dimensionless constant.
  • We can't derived the formulae containing trigonometric functions, exponential functions etc
  • It doesn't tell whether a quantity is scalar or vector.
