The gender division of labour refers to the allocation of different jobs or types of work to women and men
Explanation:
- In case of the traditional Indian society, the division of labour has been based on gender and age. The capacity of the individual is not considered when assigning or dividing the work, and only gender is taken into account. Private gender division ensures that all unpaid domestic tasks are assigned to women and men are expected to go to work to raise money for their families. It's not because men are not required to do house work, just that women have to contend with these household works.
- All boys and girls agree that housework and the welfare of children are the primary responsibilities of mothers. Where they get compensated for these work, men are willing to do these work. For example, The bulk of hotel chefs and showroom tailors are men since they are being paid for these jobs. In metropolitan settings, poor women work in middle-class households as household helpers, whereas middle-class women work in offices.
- The public division of labor results in the fact that women, while they comprise half of the human race, in majority of the communities their position in public life , particularly politics, is small. Only males have traditionally been allowed to take part in public affairs, voting and the contesting for public offices. In politics the issue of gender has slowly been raised. It had demanded the betterment/improvement of women's legal and political status & their opportunities/prospects for career & education. Feminist protests are the campaigns initiated by women in order to gain representation in political and public life. The "political expression" of "gender division" & "political mobilization" had helped to enhance role of women in public life
