1. they are bilaterally symmetrical, unsegmented and triploblastic animals having a body cavity or coelom.

2. They possess a notochord at some stage in their life history. it lies between dorsal nerve tube and the gut.

3. notochord provides place for the attachment of muscles.

4. usually Marine, soft having a vase- like or worm-like form.
