the genetic material lies in direct contact with the cytoplasm and is called nucleoid. prokaryotes also do not contain membrane bound organelles in the cytoplasm. ribosomes ribosomes are, however, present.

these include the most primitive organisms such as bacteria and blue green algae (cyanobacteria).
