Provident fund means savings made for you out of your salary. There is a law on it 'Employees' provident fund and miscellaneous provisions act, 1952'.

12% is deducted from your salary and the equal amount is also deposited by the employer.
e.g. your salary is 10,000 then 12% or 1,200 is deducted from your salary. This amount and 1,200 more is also deposited by the employer to your PF account, total 2,400.

The government doesn't contribute anything other than interest. Your employer do.

cnr44: thank you sir...
manish2808: you're welcome
