The Pungi was known as a 'reeded noisemaker'. A barber in the court of Aurangzeb decided to improve the quality of the Pungi. He decided to transform the Pungi into a Shehnai which is used even today in modern day India. The shehnai, when compared to the Pungi, sounds much better and has a clearer tune.
