Answer:

The Pythagoras Theorem or the Pythagorean theorem, named after the Greek mathematician Pythagoras states that: ... If we let c be the length of the hypotenuse and a and b be the lengths of the other two sides, the theorem can be expressed as the equation: a 2 + b 2 = c 2 {\displaystyle a^{2}+b^{2}=c^{2}\,}.

What is Pythagoras Theorem?

Pythagoras (Greek Mathematician, famous for worshipping numbers) discovered a mathematical theorem telling that in a right angled triangle, the hypotenuse² of the triangle is equal to the base² and altitude².

For Example:

(Diagram in attachment)

Base of the triangle is 4 c.m., altitude is 3 c.m., find the hypotenuse.

Answer:

We know,

c²=a²+b²

Let the hypotenuse be = x c.m.

Hence,

x²=4²+3²

=>16+9

=>25

Now,

x²=>25

=>√25=5.

Therefore, the hypotenuse is 5 c.m.

NOTE: This theorem only works in. right angled triangle. If you apply this in other triangle, your result will be wrong.
