a number which occurs in the theoretical expression for the value of some quantized property of a subatomic particle, atom, or molecule and can only have certain integral or half-integral values.

Every electron in an atom are given by three numbers set given by n, I and m. These set of numbers can be called quantum numbers. These quantum numbers are associated with orientation and shape. The quantum number     n =1, 2, 3... Tells about the size of orbital while quantum number l =1, 2, 3... Tells about the orbital’s shape and the quantum number m = -2,-1, 0, 1, 2 etc. which defines the orientation of orbital.
