Radio

A radio is a device that transmits messages using radio waves.

It is one of the most important and popular modes of communication today.

Broadcasting is the most familiar use of radio.

Radio broadcasts transmit music, news, discussions, interviews, advertisements, cultural and sports events.

The radio was invented by the Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi. He was the first to transmit radio signals across a distance of 1.6 km in 1895. In the next few years, he used his radio device to send signals across the Atlantic Ocean.

Parts of Radio

The radio system has two fundamental parts- transmitter and receiver. The transmitter is an instrument by which messages are sent. The message or information could be a sound, picture or data. The transmitter modulates the amplitude or frequency and transmits them by means of an antenna. The receiver receives the radio waves and decodes the information from the sine wave received by it. The receiver also uses an antenna to capture the radio signal.
