Real image is that image which you can get on a screen. For example when you stand in front of a plane mirror, you see your photo, this is formed behind the mirror, you can not get it on a screen. This is not real image, it is virtual image. Where as if you hold a convex lens in front of a lamp at some distance, you will get its image on the other side of the lens, which you can get focused on a piece of paper. This is real image.
