Intermolecular forces are inversely proportional to intermolecular spaces.
As one increase the other decrease. & vice versa . eg. if intermolecular space increase the force decrease...☺
In gases the intermolecular forces is very small since the molecules of gases are very far apart. There are different types of intermolecular forces like vandervalls force, dipole dipole interation, Hydrogen bonding etc. In solids the molecules are very closely packed and the distance or space is very small hence force is very high.

In simply Intermolecular spaces means the space between the two particles and intermolecular forces means the force between the two particles in a less space
