A pronunciation having one vowel sound, either or either not surrounding consonants, forming the whole .
For example: there are two syllables in water and three in inferno.
Let me explain : WATER
In this word ,'A' is a vowel and surrounded by consonants which are 'W' and 'T '
And
In this same word water, 'E 'is surrounded by two consonants 'T' and 'R 'respectively . So , we could say that the word water has two syllables.
Hope it helps
