Some characteristics, roughly speaking, are governed by a gene, which appears in the individual, in double dose, being one of paternal origin and another, coming from the mother, and are called alleles.

In many cases, these alleles can be dominant or recessive, that is, a given allele can express itself effectively, while the recessive expresses little or no influence, for a given characteristic.
