  • Rectifier :- The direction (sense) of current changes periodically in AC. A current in only one direction (sense) can be obtained by using alternating voltage applied to a p-n junction. A device to perform this work (do this job) is known as rectifier.

  • P-n junction diode is used as rectifier because there is unidirectional work in it. When a.c. signal is imposed on p-n junction, for half cycle p-n junction is forward biased and for next half cycle it is reverse biased. So, a.c is converted into d.c.
