Red Data Book

Red Data Book is an innovative concept containing a list of species that are endangered. Today many countries, including India are maintaining their own Red Data Books. In these books, the species are classified into different categories of perceived risk levels. Red Data Book usually deals with a specific group of animals or plants, for example, primates, reptiles, insects, mosses etc. It updates the status of their population so that immediate conservation programme regarding these species can be initiated. The first Red Data Book on animals was compiled in the year 1991.These books are published by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).
