★The chemical reaction in which oxidation and reduction both takes place is called redox reaction.

______________________________________________________________

☆Example (See attached image )

★In this reaction CuO is changing into Cu. That is oxygen is being removed from copper oxide.

______________________________________________________________

☆Now :-

★Addition of oxygen to a substance is called oxidation so we can say that hydrogen is being oxidised to water.

★In this reaction H2 is changing into H2O. That is oxygen is being added to hydrogen. Now we can say that hydrogen is being oxidised in water.

★Hydrogen is being oxidised to water and at the same time copper oxide is being reduced to copper. This shoe that oxidation and reduction occurs together.

______________________________________________________________

☆(Now see the second attached Image)

★In the above 2nd attached image copper oxide (CuO) is giving the oxygen required for the oxidation of hydrogen so copper oxide is the oxidising agent.

★Hydrogen is responsible for removing oxygen from copper so hydrogen is the reducing agent here.

☆One more last definition of Redox reaction :-

★A substance gains oxygen and in reduction a substance uses oxygen

★This reaction is known as redox reaction.

 \huge \bf Redox \: reaction :

In a chemical reaction when both oxidation and reduction takes place simultaneously then it is called Redox reaction.

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀

 \huge \bf Example :

\bf CuO + H_{2}  \: ➞ \:  Cu + H_{2}O

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀

\bf Here

\bf Substance  \: oxidised : H_{2}

\bf Substance  \: reduced : CuO

\bf Oxidising  \: agent  : CuO

\bf Reducing  \: agent : H_{2}
