What is reffered to as Haussmanisation of Paris?
Answers
Baron Haussmann was commissioned by Napoleon III to remodel Paris by pulling down and building up new streets and cities in 1868. This project was named as Haussmanisation and comprised of aspects of urban planning both in the centre of Paris and in the surrounding districts: streets and boulevards, regulations imposed on facades of buildings, public parks, sewers and water works, city facilities, and public monuments.
Some important structures constructed in this Plan are:
- Rue Rambuteau Street
- Boulevard Richard-Lenoir
- Opera Garnier
The plan was effective because it "let the men and air" ventilate, gave the city its present rational-design with wide avenues and open spaces which extended outwards far beyond the old city limits. However, it can be condemned for exaggerated ambitions of the renovation projects and their uncertain finances.
