The brain and the spinal cord of organisms are responsible for reflex action. When the body receives stimulus from outside it automatically instantaneously react to it and this involuntary movement is called reflex action.

The reflex arcs are the pathways of neurons that act as carriers of the impulse prior to the latter reaching the brain. Examples of reflex actions are the involuntary movement of the leg if a small rubber hammer is hit on the knees.
