Refaction is a change in the direction of the light wave when it is travelling through two difference mediums. This is a gradual change which occurs instantly. The best example of this can be given of water and air.

Eg: When the light wave is passing through the air when the same light wave enters in the water, The gradual changes occurs in the wave of light. This gradual changes are called as Refraction.

  • Refraction occurs only in 2 different mediums at once.
  • The beautiful rainbow which we see in our sky is an example of the phenomenon Rarefaction.
  • Rarefaction also changes the speed of light. Because different mediums have different speeds.
