REFRACTION:-

Refraction is the bending of a wave when it enters a medium where its speed is different. The refraction of light when it passes from a fast medium to a slow medium bends the lightray toward the normal to the boundary between the two media.

REFRACTION THROUGH A GLASS SLAB:-

The incident ray bends towards the normal inside the glass slab and the refracted ray bends away from the normal when it emerges from the glass slab. The extent of bending of the light ray at the two opposite parallel surfaces is equal and opposite. Hence the incident ray and the emergent ray are parallel to each other.

Refraction through a rectangular glass slab and principle of reversibility of light: Consider a rectangular glass slab, as shown in figure. A ray AE is incident on the face PQ at an angle of incidence i. On entering the glass slab, it bends towards normal and travels along EF at an angle ofrefraction r.
