Regelation is a process in which the state of a substance can be changed by application of pressure and then releasing it. A substance (that is frozen solid) can melt when pressure is applied and when lifted it freezes again. For example: Melting of an ice when applied pressure on it.

Regelation occurs only for substances, such as ice, that have the property of expanding upon freezing, for the melting points of those substances decrease with the increasing external pressure.
