Regelation is the phenomenon of melting under pressure and freezing again when the pressure is reduced. Many sources state that regelation can be demonstrated by looping a fine wire around a block of ice, with a heavy weight attached to it.

               applications of regelation are pressure cookers, superheat steam engines, etc.

♦ Regelation is a process in which the state of a substance can be changed by application of pressure and then releasing it. A substance  (that is frozen solid) can melt when pressure is applied and when lifted it freezes again.

→ Ice can melt when pressure is applied.
