Relative lowering of vapour pressure of solution containing a non-volatile solute is defined as the mole fraction of the solute in the solution.

Its formula is given as:-

p*-ps/p* = Xb

or, p*- ps/p* = nb/na+nb

(Here, p* = vapour pressure of pure solvent

ps = vapour pressure of solution

Xb = mole fraction of solute

na = number of moles of solvent

nb = number of moles of solute)
